Flying Start Nursery Darnley was opened in September 2020.

The building has been totally repurposed from a set of offices into a purpose-built childcare centre where children can thrive, learn and grow in a rich stimulating environment. A nursery in the heart of the community for local children.

Inside has bright open spaces with low level partitions to enable us to have specific learning areas for the children as they move through the nursery.

Babies: children under 2yrs old

Tweenies: children between 2yrs and 3yrs

Pre school:  children from 3yrs old until they go to school

Each room has a wide variety of learning zones within it such as: reading corner, maths and literacy areas, role play, computer station, art and craft, home corner…… etc.  Lots of variety to help shape little minds.

The outside space is sectioned off to accommodate a large deck at the rear of the building; a further huge play area with a sand pit, water station, castle, music wall, loose parts area, construction zone, mud kitchen; a grassed play space at the side for planting and discovering nature; and a car park to the front. The children spend a lot of time outside in all weathers.

The rationale of our curriculum is to ensure that we treat each child as an individual, build on their strengths and support them in all areas as they learn new skills. We use all of the current legislation and childcare frameworks to ensure that each child reaches their full potential.

We are registered with the Care Inspectorate to take up to 92 children from birth until they go to school.  The Care Inspectorate carry out routine inspections of the Nursery to ensure that the Standards of Service provided are maintained.

We also work in partnership with Glasgow City Council to provide funded places to children aged three years and above. Some children can be funded from two years old but these need to be authorised by the local authority. Speak directly with the nursery for more specific information.

Our greatest asset is our staff team, they are all registered as Childcare Practitioners with the Scottish Social Services Council. They are all members of the PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) Scheme and have been recruited correctly following the latest government guidance. Their collective knowledge and enthusiasm makes them best placed to work with our children who are the adults of tomorrow.

To join us please call the nursery and our Manager Marianne will be glad to show you around and talk through how we can help meet your childcare requirements.
